Choose a suitable place
Keep the storage area consistent with the product directions and away from avoidable contamination or damage. FDA’s handling guide recommends care with pet food and treat storage. Different moisture levels and product formats can need different handling, so do not give every item one generic storage rule.
Keep active and unresolved supplies separate
Set aside an item with a packaging or recall concern while following the relevant official instructions. Do not place a questioned product back in a common jar where its identity is lost. Keep dates readable and inspect the package when retrieving it.
Do not use appearance as a clearance test
A normal smell or an intact-looking bag does not override a recall, a label instruction or an unresolved concern. Contact the manufacturer when product-specific information is unclear rather than inventing a longer storage interval.
Before you decide
- Read the exact storage directions.
- Retain the identity and dates.
- Keep questioned supplies out of routine use.
