Start with a real stock count

Use a reliable count of usable pieces or clearly label an estimate. Keep products with unresolved packaging or recall concerns separate from usable stock, following the applicable instructions. Do not count a suspected product as normal inventory simply to make the forecast look longer.

Apply the scenario arithmetic

Remaining pieces divided by your assumed pieces used per day gives estimated days of stock. If 100 fictional usable pieces are assumed to be used at 10 per day, the arithmetic gives 10 days. The assumption is not a recommended intake and must not override label or veterinary guidance.

Use lead time as a shopping input

The stock tool also compares the assumption with delivery days you enter. Delivery is not guaranteed, and changing your use assumption changes the output. Recount after a trip, multiple users or a package change rather than treating an old estimate as a live stock feed.

Before you decide

  • Count usable stock honestly.
  • Keep the assumption explicit.
  • Do not use the forecast as a feeding allowance.
